Porsche has introduced the 911 GT4 R, a new customer racing car and the first GT4-class machine built on the 911 platform. It is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine producing up to 520 PS (513 hp), and is scheduled to make its competition debut in the 2027 season. Pricing is set at $375,500, including import and delivery to the United States.
The 911 GT4 R is based on the technical foundation of the current 911 Cup, itself derived from the road-going Type 992.2 911 GT3. Compared with Porsche’s previous GT4 Clubsport cars based on the 718 Cayman, it adds a more powerful engine, wider front and rear track and updated motorsport electronics. In North America, it will compete in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and SRO Pirelli GT4 America championships, with the shared platform intended to ease the transition from Porsche’s one-make 911 Cup racing into open GT4 competition.

The engine is based on the unit used in the 911 GT3 and delivers up to 520 PS (513 hp) with up to 346 lb-ft of torque, though figures vary with each car’s Balance of Performance classification. As delivered from the factory, the GT4 R runs 53.7-millimeter air restrictors that reduce output to 430 PS (424 hp). Power goes through a sequential six-speed dog gearbox with paddle shifters and a four-disc racing clutch. Under GT4 rules, the chassis differs from the 911 Cup with wheels one inch narrower and a five-bolt mounting pattern in place of the Cup car’s center lock, plus dual-adjustable dampers and three selectable spring rates.
The car carries over key body structures and aerodynamic work from the 911 Cup, with a rear wing adjustable across 11 positions. It makes extensive use of natural-fiber-reinforced composite in the doors, engine cover, aerodynamic parts and sections of the cockpit. Inside, the driver gets a 10.3-inch color display, an integrated data logger and a GPS system, while ballast can be added to meet BoP weight classifications.
Porsche has built more than 1,500 Cayman-based GT4 cars since entering the category in 2016, and North American teams have taken 12 driver titles across the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and SRO Pirelli GT4 America in that span, including a sweep of the 2025 manufacturer, driver and team titles in IMSA GT4. The 911 GT4 R is scheduled to debut in the 2027 motorsport season.
