Romain Dumas won the 104th Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday, claiming his sixth King of the Mountain title on the 12.42-mile course under sunny skies. The victory followed a week of practice battles with runner-up Robin Shute and defending champion Simone Faggioli.
Several records fell during the day. Daijiro Yoshihara lowered the front-wheel-drive mark to 10:33.174 in the Acura Integra Type S he brought to chase that record, only for rookie Jim Morris to beat it moments later at 10:33.104 in a Volkswagen Golf, with the record falling twice within three starting positions. Shute set a new rear-wheel-drive record of 8:29.497 in the Sendycar V1 on his way to second overall, surpassing Faggioli’s 2018 mark. David Donner set a production car record of 9:53.740 in his 2022 Porsche Turbo S, bettering the 10:12.024 Rhys Millen ran in 2023.
Five women started this year’s race. Emelia Hartford claimed the title of fastest woman on four wheels with a 10:11.018 in her 2026 Chevrolet Corvette, taking the mark from Laura Hayes, who had earlier lowered her own record to 10:17.538 in a Toyota Supra GT4 EVO2.
Three incidents occurred on course. Rookie Franco Caruso left the course and struck trees shortly after the start line in his Nova Proto NP01, walking away uninjured. Bruce Jouanny went off at Engineers Corner in his Ligier JS2 R, traveling more than 100 feet before coming to a stop without injury. Near the summit, Patrick Culligan was injured in the 2026 Nighthawk Pikes Peak Special and was airlifted to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, where he underwent surgery for a broken pelvis and right femur and is expected to make a full recovery.
