Polestar has confirmed the Formula 2030, a concept car intended to preview the brand’s next design direction ahead of a global debut later this year. The concept is part of a wider 2030 strategy focused on continued growth and reaching profitability, and it will be shown first to investors, retailers, and select customers at a strategy event at the company’s Gothenburg headquarters.
The Formula 2030 previews design attributes headed for the next-generation Polestar 2, planned for a 2027 launch, and the upcoming Polestar 7 compact SUV, due in 2028. It is the first concept designed from a clean sheet under Philipp Römers, who joined Polestar as head of design in January 2025, and the company describes the direction as an evolution of its Scandinavian design language that retains familiar elements such as the Dual Blade headlights.
Neither of those production models will be sold in the U.S., as Polestar bowed out of the American market in June after the U.S. Department of Commerce denied it authorization to sell vehicles from the 2027 model year under the Connected Vehicle Rule, which restricts connected vehicle technology from companies under Chinese or Russian jurisdiction. Polestar, majority owned by Geely, said it would not appeal the decision and is redirecting its commercial focus toward Europe while it sells its remaining U.S. inventory and continues to support existing owners.
