Genesis Magma Racing recorded its best FIA World Endurance Championship result to date at Lone Star Le Mans, with the #17 GMR-001 Hypercar of Pipo Derani, Mathys Jaubert, and André Lotterer finishing seventh in the six-hour race at Circuit of the Americas on September 6. The result improves on the eighth place the team scored at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in May, and both entries finished on the lead lap for the first time, a pre-season target for the debut program heading into its first U.S. race.
Both cars ran without mechanical issues in every session of the weekend, and both reached Hyperpole for the first time under the WEC’s regular qualifying format, with Jaubert lining up eighth. Lotterer climbed from eighth to fifth on the opening lap, which followed two extra formation laps after rain fell before the start, but an attempted pass for third at the end of the back straight ended in contact and a spin that dropped the car to the back of the Hypercar field and drew a five-second penalty.
A Safety Car during Derani’s double stint brought the car back into contention, and a Virtual Safety Car with just over an hour remaining allowed the team to change only the left-side tires as Jaubert took over for the final stint. Jaubert, the youngest driver in the Hypercar class, spent the last hour racing cars running four fresh tires to his two and moved up to eighth in traffic before a penalty for the #12 Cadillac promoted the #17 to seventh.
The #19 GMR-001 of Paul-Loup Chatin, Mathieu Jaminet, and Dani Juncadella finished 15th after the final Safety Car fell outside its pit window and forced an extra stop after the restart, though Jaminet kept the car on the lead lap to the finish. Sporting director Gabriele Tarquini said the gaps across the Hypercar field came down to a few tenths of a second, and chief engineer Justin Taylor acknowledged the team made several operational mistakes despite neither car visiting the garage with a technical issue all weekend. Ferrari AF Corse’s #50 499P won the race, with three rounds remaining in the 2026 season.
