Travis Pastrana Drives McMurtry Spéirling at Dunsfold

Travis Pastrana has driven the McMurtry Spéirling prototype for the first time in a new film for his Channel199 YouTube channel, shot at the Dunsfold circuit in England the day before this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. The car he drove is the same prototype that set the outright lap record at Dunsfold, better known as the Top Gear Test Track, with a 55.9-second lap in 2025 that beat the 2004 Renault Formula 1 car’s previous benchmark by 3.1 seconds.

Pastrana, an 11-time X Games gold medalist who landed the first double backflip on a motorcycle and raced the 2023 Daytona 500, was given the full 1,000 hp and 4,400 pounds (2,000 kg) of fan-generated downforce for the session, and said afterward that he had gone faster than in any vehicle he had ever driven. McMurtry co-founder and managing director Thomas Yates, a quad bike racing champion who grew up watching Pastrana, first met him in 2021 when the two were paddock neighbors at Goodwood, and Pastrana later competed against McMurtry test driver Max Chilton at the 2022 Festival of Speed, where the Spéirling set the hillclimb record McMurtry says still stands. The day also included laps in Yates’ championship-winning quad and his Caterham, a shifter kart, and a uni-wheel, before McMurtry staff lined up single-seaters for a quarter-mile drag race against Pastrana in the Spéirling.

The production Spéirling PURE has entered production with 95 percent new components compared with the prototype, with no more than 100 examples to be built and first customer deliveries beginning later in 2026. The single-seat, closed-cockpit track car uses twin motors driving the rear wheels through an electronic differential, a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery with Molicel P50B cells, and a fan-based downforce system that delivers up to 4,400 pounds of load from a standstill for 3 g of cornering and braking force. McMurtry quotes 0-60 mph in 1.55 seconds with a one-foot rollout, a 190 mph top speed, a weight of roughly 2,980 pounds depending on options, and a run distance of 25 to 31 miles (40 to 50 km) at LMP2 pace, with a 20 to 95 percent charge taking 20 to 60 minutes depending on charger capacity and ambient temperature. Brakes are 390 mm vented carbon ceramic discs with Brembo six-piston calipers on off-the-shelf Michelin Pilot Sport GT S8M slicks, and the car is eligible for the GT1 Sports Club, Global Time Attack in the U.S., and the European Time Attack Masters.

Pricing starts at £995,000, roughly $1.3 million, before local taxes, shipping, and options, with more information at mcmurtry.com.
