Ford Racing has introduced the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible, which the company calls the first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013 and the most powerful open-air Mustang ever. Orders open in fall 2026, with cars arriving in dealer showrooms starting in spring 2027.
The convertible is the drop-top counterpart to the Dark Horse SC coupe and carries the same standard supercharged 5.2-liter V8, producing 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Ford Racing engineers started with the Dark Horse SC’s chassis and tuned its next-generation MagneRide suspension for street driving rather than lap times, with chief engineer Arie Groeneveld saying the convertible was engineered as a top-down grand touring machine instead of being prioritized for lap times.
Inside, the Dark Horse SC’s seats were developed with firmer bolstering for lateral support in corners and extra headroom to accommodate drivers wearing helmets on track, according to Ford Racing seating engineer Diya Nuxoll. Nuxoll says the team’s challenge was building a seat that keeps the driver planted through corners while remaining comfortable for hours-long road trips, and that the seats were tested with feedback from drivers of different body types.
The model also introduces new styling and color options, including Precision Purple Metallic exterior paint, a unique brake caliper color, and premium interior details in Black Onyx and Space Gray. Pricing has not been announced.
