Bugatti has revealed the Destrier, the third one-of-one creation from its Programme Solitaire coachbuilding initiative, following the Brouillard and the F.K.P. Hommage. Built on the carbon fiber monocoque of the Bolide track car, the one-off will be unveiled during Monterey Car Week, culminating at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16. Named after the strongest type of medieval knight’s horse, the Destrier removes the Bolide’s wings, vents, and aerodynamic addenda to present the platform’s proportions as pure design, an approach Bugatti compares to the Type 57 chassis underpinning both the Le Mans-winning Type 57G and Type 57C Tank racers and the Type 57SC Atlantic.
The finished car stands one meter tall, about 39 inches, which Bugatti says is dramatically lower than any other model it builds, riding on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels in place of the Bolide’s 18s. The signature C-line pauses just before the front wheel well before resuming its path to the horseshoe grille, which is wider than the Bolide’s, while a blended rear wing echoes the Chiron Profilée. The exterior wears Sapphire Celeste, a bespoke multi-layered blue with diamond-inspired sparkle, set off by polished aluminum brightwork, tinted exposed carbon fiber limited to the front splitter and rear diffuser, and hammered brightwork in the engine bay referencing hand-beaten armor. A hand-laser-engraved dedication plate above the windscreen depicts both the Type 57G Tank and the Type 57SC Atlantic.
Inside, the cabin moves away from the Bolide’s motorsport cockpit with leather and nubuck in Ambre Voyageur, a warm brown, joined by a 3D-knitted textile threaded with copper yarns woven into a halo-line pattern around the cabin. The hammered finish returns on the door opener, air vents, steering wheel hub, and entry plate, a small French flag sits at the center of the cabin, and the oil filler cap carries the Destrier emblem with a 1/1 designation.
Underneath, the Destrier retains the Bolide’s complete quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 producing 1,578 hp (1,600 PS), which Bugatti describes as the engine at the peak of its development.
