2027 Honda Civic Type R

2027 Civic Type R Gets Heated Seats, New Front End

Honda has detailed the refreshed 2027 Honda Civic Type R, which begins arriving at dealers this month with an MSRP of $48,695, or $49,990 including the $1,295 destination charge. That is an $1,800 increase over the 2026 model’s $46,895 MSRP, with destination up $100. The update coincides with the Type R badge’s 30th anniversary, counting from the 1997 Civic Type R sold in Japan, and the model’s 10th anniversary in North America. The turbocharged K20C carries over at 315 hp and 310 lb-ft, still built at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio and still paired exclusively with a six-speed manual, and EPA ratings are unchanged at 22 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined. Honda says the Type R remains the only car in its class offered solely with a manual and the most powerful Honda production vehicle sold in the U.S.

The front fascia has been redesigned with a larger grille opening and a deeper splitter, which Honda says reduces turbulence and raises airflow velocity for improved engine cooling during sustained track driving while adding front downforce. Suspension damping in +R mode has been retuned to improve road-following and reduce bouncing and impact harshness, the Rev Match system responds faster for smoother downshifts, and a yoke spring added to the brake pedal linkage removes play for a more direct pedal feel. The engine cover has been redesigned to resemble the covers on early Japanese-market Type R engines, and the horn is now a dual-tone unit. Meteorite Gray Metallic joins the color lineup alongside Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Championship White.

Inside, the front sport seats are heated for the first time, with three-level controls positioned next to the climate knobs, and the red high-friction suede-like upholstery gets a new perforation pattern with black striping. Ultrasuede now covers the upper instrument panel and the upper front door panels, which Honda says cuts glare and reflections on the windshield. The dash gains a diamond-pattern mesh trim panel with a black surround, the climate control knobs and air vent knobs are now black, and the aluminum shift knob, console trim, and interior door handles switch to a darker gray finish. Silver trim is added to the front door panels, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror is standard.

Google built-in arrives on the Type R for the first time, bringing Google Gemini, Google Maps, and Google Play to the infotainment system, with Gemini replacing Google Assistant and maintaining context across multiple voice exchanges. Alexa built-in is also standard, and two USB-C ports are added to the center console above the wireless phone charger.

The standard Honda Sensing suite is upgraded for 2027, with the Collision Mitigation Braking System gaining improved detection of motorcycles and bicycles, Adaptive Cruise Control getting revised braking and acceleration response, and the Lane Keeping Assist System handling road camber and other disturbances more smoothly. Post-Collision Braking is new to the Type R and is designed to limit damage in multi-collision crashes. The full suite includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Monitor, Driver Attention Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Auto High-Beam Headlights. The 2027 Civic Type R reaches Honda dealers in October.
