A White Pearl

For the past several years, Nissan laid dormant with their sports cars and their sport coupes. Most recently however, Nissan has launched the 350Z sports car and its matching counter part, the luxury Coupe of Infiniti – the G35. Sporting the new VQ35 engine, this 280hp / 270 tq monster ensures that the G35 coupe is a lot more fun to drive than it would seem. Joshua Davison was one of the first in lines at Infiniti, purchasing a brand new Ivory Pearl 2003 6MT. Appreciating the stock bodylines and the power it had from the factory, it wasn’t long that Josh wanted more out of his G. So it began he thought, wheels, suspension, engine upgrades – the aftermarket had jumped on and it would be absurd if he hadn’t as well.

Starting off with the aesthetics of the car, Josh wanted to build a street cruiser that would turn plenty of necks. A complete GReddy body kit (one of the first) can be seen enhancing the stock bodylines of the G35. The aggressive front bumper replaces the tamer version of the factory, while the side skirts are made to match. The rear lip skirt is also mild in its form, but complements the rest of the kit perfectly. Now for those that own G35’s, we all know that it’s still a luxury coupe. Wanting to keep that luxury ride and feel to it, Josh opted for the TEIN H-Tech springs to handle the lowering job. With the body kit bolted onto the chassis, the form and function of the car is near perfect in terms of ride height and handling. On all four corners are of the pearl white G35 are RH Pro J8 wheels, dipped in a bright gold finish. 19×9 and 19×10 can be seen, sporting a +26 offset in the front and a +19 offset in the rear – allowing for over a 4 inch lip! Wrapped with none other than Toyo Tires, the Proxes T-1S find their new home on the J8’s with a 245/30/19 variety in the front and a 275/35/19 variety in the rear. Last but not least, the stock amber front corners were replaced for a much fitting set of clear ones.

Popping the hood, I couldn’t believe that Josh wasn’t happy with just 280hp. Sponsored by Ny-Trex (a brand new system) the stock VQ35 now sports a Triple Threat Nitrous System. With 100hp on tap and a custom purge kit, Josh has really let the G march to its own beat. An Injen polished cold air intake system replaces the stock restrictive unit, as the air flows through new DC Sports headers and out an Injen true dual SES exhaust system. In the works while I shot the car were a polished plenum, polished cam covers and a carbon fiber engine cover. With the additional of nitrous, Josh wisely swapped out his stock plugs for a step 1 set colder from Denso Iridium. Also aiding the new nitrous tuned VQ35 is an APEXi S-AFC unit, giving the car a tad more fuel, richening up the air:fuel ratio for those nitrous feeds. Last but not least, a custom ground wire kit was added to the mix. Several shiny amenities can be seen as well in the engine bay, including a GReddy oil cap and matching radiator cap. TEIN hood dampers were on their way as well.

A White Pearl

On the inside of the willow tan interior, Josh had several panels removed for painting. A B&M short shifter was installed to make daily driving a snap, while a GReddy counterweight shift knob makes the actual shifting process comfortable. In the rear seat fitting snug in the center is an Ivory Pearl Ny-Trex 25lb bottle. Coming soon is a brand new Mazworx harness bar with Takata harnesses for both driver and passenger side seats.

Competing in shows is no easy task these days, and Josh can account for that himself. With a tight trunk space, Josh had to cleverly design a stereo that not only looked hot, but sounded great as he daily drives the car. In the trunk are two JL Audio 12W6 subwoofers in a custom enclosure. Three amplifiers are laid out perfectly in the trunk, two 500watt units and one 300watt – four channel unit. Laying snug on top of the dual subwoofer setup is a laser-etched plexiglass of the Infiniti logo. In car electronics were also added into the cockpit, with a custom fiber-glass molded Fahrenheit LCD screen and Icon-TV DVD player.

The entire package brings on a whole new look and feel to the G35. Having owned one myself, I can appreciate Josh’s hard work in picking just the right parts to complement each corner of the car. Look out however, as Josh plans on filling up that wide front gap in the GReddy bumper in the near future!
