A weekend of drifting took place at Irwindale Speedway this past weekend. D1 Grand Prix started off with their final event of the season on Saturday and then moved into a worldwide drift extravaganza on Sunday. This first part of coverage covers the events of the first day where Team Orange’s Kumakubo and their Evo IX drift car made its debut on the stateside and took the event win. Kawabata was crowned the 2007 champion.
