Bentley has completed its second Tutto Bene event in two months, following August’s Stazione Remota gathering in Carmel Valley during Monterey Car Week with an appearance at the Tutto Bene Hill Climb on Mottarone, the mountain above Lake Maggiore and the town of Stresa in northern Italy. The 3.7-mile (6 km) hillclimb, held September 9 in front of a crowd of thousands, is organized by Los Angeles-based Race Service and Milan design studio BorromeodeSilva and is judged on style and a sense of fun rather than speed.
Bentley ran two cars on the hill, with the FULL SEND Supersports, the car Travis Pastrana drifted around the Crewe factory in Bentley’s gymkhana-style film earlier this year, joined by the 2018 Pikes Peak Bentayga that set the production SUV record at Pikes Peak that year. Both cars carried VIP passengers up the course during the event.
Away from the hill, Bentley staged a selection of display cars at Bar Stazione, the event’s central hub, led by a new glow-in-the-dark Flying Spur painted by Welsh artist David Gwyther, known as Deathspray and the artist behind Ken Block’s Gymkhana liveries. The off-road Bentayga X concept, first shown at the FAT Ice Race in January, also appeared, along with the Speed 8 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003.
The oldest Bentley on hand was Smoky, an original 1926 Super Sports and one of 18 built, which attended the drivers’ dinner on the private island of Isola Madre. The car has spent the summer on loan to Bentley Motors from owners Mike Thompson and his son Josh, appearing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Monterey Car Week, where it made its first U.S. visit, and supporting the launch of the new Supersports. Smoky now returns to its home in the north-east of England.
