Interview with Stan Sumirat

tZ: I know your car has been off the road for awhile, can you give us a little history on the car and how it came to be what it is today?

Stan: I started the recent build up 2 years ago, originally I started to build a high horsepower street car. It wasn’t until late last year when I started working with Jason “St00pid” from Autologic Inc and Shami to convert the car into the full track car it is today. I did the first build up in early 2002 and the car had a misfortunate stint when I was in SEMA of 2002 in Las Vegas, where the car was stolen and finally recovered after a week. It was somewhat of an odd story, a lot of Honda-Tech members helped me to pull through and it gave me a lot of inspiration to turn the car the way it is now.

tZ: You seem to be the man when it comes to selling parts for turbo setups, what made you decide to start fast-turbo.com

Stan: I started to become very fascinated with AN fittings and hoses back in early 2000, and started to buy a lot of extras for my own personal use. After I finish my first build up, I had a lot of parts left over and started to sell them on Honda-Tech.com to make some extra cash. At that point, a lot of my friends and members started to ask me for help with their plumbing on oil and fuel, and I started to become the “go to guy” for all oil and fuel plumbing. In early 2003 I started Fast-Turbo.com as a part time gig, it was shortly after that when the business sky rocketed and it became my full time career. We have been very blessed with tremendous amount of support from our customers and Honda-Tech.com in the past 3 years. We would not be where we are right now without the support of our customers.

Interview with Stan Sumirat

tZ: The T4/SFWD class is growing rapidly this year, what is your strategy to try and be competitive in the points race?

Stan: Our strategy is pretty simple, put the power to the ground where it needs to be and be as consistent as possible in every pass. I had a lot of learning and practice to do as a driver. Jason “St00pid” Herrera, Dwayne Holder and Shami have done an excellent job in supporting myself as a driver, and now it’s all up to me to make a mark in the circuit.

Interview with Stan Sumirat

tZ: Besides T4/SFWD, what other classes do you see growing over the season or even over the next couple of seasons and why?

Stan: I think Power Street Class in the NDRA is also a very competitive class, I see it as a step ladder for a lot of guys and girls to get some experience for the national circuit level at their local track before they make a step to the T4/SFWD class. The fact that they always have a full field, makes it exciting to see. I also liked the Pro FWD class as well, although I wish we can see more racers in that class.

Interview with Stan Sumirat

tZ: What other events do you plan on attending this year and why have you chosen these events?

Stan: I have committed to attend all NDRA events, a few IDRC and Import Showoffs for this season. It all depends on the scheduling. Since NDRA is our main priority, we’ll work the schedule to attend the other races based on the NDRA schedule.

tZ: could you give a rundown of what mods you have performed on the car?

Stan: Sure thing,

  • Engine: B18C1 GS-R with Endyn Rollerwave Pistons, Crower Rods, Endyn Race Block and REV Valvetrain
  • Forced Induction: Full-Race Equal Length Manifold, Precision GT3767 Turbo, Turbosmart Wastegate, Greddy Type R Blow off Valve, Autologic Intercooler Piping with Wiggins Clamps
  • Suspension: Omni Full Drag Coilovers and Goodridge Brakelines
  • Fuel: Fast-Turbo.com Fuel Line Kit, Endyn Bosch Fuel Pump and Fast-Turbo.com Custom Fuel Pickup
  • Electronics: Neptuned EMS, tuned by Jason “St00pid” Herrera
  • Safety: Roll Cage by Autologic
  • Drivetrain: Gator High Performance Racing Axles, Quaife LSD

tZ: what kind of dyno numbers and track times have you gotten out of the car? Do you have any bugs that need to be worked out?

Stan: Jason “St00pid” Herrera was able to extract 678 Whp and 478 ft/lb out of our current setup, keep in mind, we’re still on a T3 turbine housing. We are in process of converting our turbo setup to a T4 in the near future. Unfortunately, we still have some minor issues to work out with our transmission setup and my driving skills, but we’re working on those as we speak and we will be ready for the next race.

tZ: Do you have anyone in particular that inspired you to get into drag racing or Hondas in general?

Stan: The local street racing scene in Southern California caught my attention at an early age and it started the addiction for Hondas and drag racing. But my family has always been very supportive in anything that I have chosen to do, my parents taught me to continue to pursue my dreams no matter what the obstacles may be. They taught me that there are always ways and avenues to get involved, and that pretty much started my involvement in the import drag racing scene.

tZ: and now for the shout-outs, who would you like to thank for their help on the car?

Stan: I’d like to thank my family (my late dad, mom, Alwin, Edna and Glenn), Jason “St00pid” Herrera, Shami, Dwayne Holder, Brad from Autologic, Inc., Glenn Gator and Buddy from Gator Racing Axles, Larry Widmer and Josh Farris from Endyn, Ralph from REV, Tony Palo, Matt Vanwie from One-Fab, Full-Race Motorsports, Jim from Precision Turbo, Arturbo Ortiz, Steve and Vick from DFW Tuning, Chris Stein, Brian Gatlin, Tommy O and Nasrene, Ryan Birgelaitis, Job Estrada, Dustin “Smokie”, Big Alan, Laskey Racing, Rico Suarez, Tabi, The guys at the shop for putting up with me on not so good days, Honda-Tech.com.
