When Honda announced their typical 4-year chassis change to the Civic hatchback, a lot of people questioned the styling of the new EK compared to the successful and popular EG chassis. Nonetheless the EK has become a huge success as well, playing on the ease of a B-series swap just like its predecessor. Jon’s picked up this 99 EK with several things in mind: Civic Type-R styling with plenty of force induced horsepower straight from a B-series.
Without question Jon started off with the B18C1 swap into his EK. Going towards the turbocharge route, Jon called upon Spoolin Performance for his turbo goods. Bolting on a Precision SC34 turbo to the B18C1, a whole new world was introduced to the black shaded chassis. Equipped with a Rev Hard intercooler, the additional boost is safely handled with the additional DSM 450cc injectors and Walbro fuel pump. Buddy Club cam gears dial in the cam timing while a custom Spoolin Performance exhaust system leads out of a K Teller 3 inch exhaust. All the tuning is taken care of courtesy of an AEM EMS.

On the outside, Jon kept things simple with some goodies that helped mirror the styling of a Civic Type R from Japan. Grabbing himself a 99 Civic Si front grill and front lip, the car also received Civic Type-R headlights and sidemarkers for lighting goods. Out in the rear is a carbon fiber duckbill for additional exterior styling. While we’re dwelling on the exterior of the car, we can notice that the stock 4 lug system is long gone. Replacing it is a 5 lug JDM ITR suspension with UKDM ITR wheels. Omnipower USA street power coilovers brings this car to the ground while a custom 3-point front upper strut bar buckles down the chassis.
Up in the interior several more clean toys can be spotted. Recaro SRD style seats take place of the stock units while a MOMO Tuner steering wheel greets Jon everyday with a smile. A Skunk2 short shifter is accentuated with a Spoon Sports shift knob making driving a little more fun through the boosted RPMs displayed off by a Civic Si gauge cluster. There’s a few more goodies that helps keep this car tearing through the revs and into heavy horsepower range, but check out the pics and the spec sheet for more!
