Detroit Autorama 2009

The 2009 Detroit Autorama and Autorama Extreme really get the show season off on the right foot. The Detroit Autorama is home of the prestigious Ridler competition and the Autorama Extreme brings together some of the top imports, domestics and rad-rods from around the Country.

This years Autorama Extreme was part of the F4 Challenge thanks to the partnership between Bob L. and Andy G. The Autorama Extreme guys wanted to bring in some new cars, and the F4 Challenge program is known for its fierce and updated rules.

The Ridler competition brought in 24 of the top built cars, while the F4 Challenge brought in 75 competing cars. Both competitions were limited and both played out in dramatic fashion.

The Ridler winner was this incredibly clean and will built 1932 Duecenberg, which was built by Alan Johnson Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop in Gadsden, Alabama and is owned by Doug Cooper of Oyster Bay Cove, New York. This particular car is based on a 1932 Ford B400, but let’s just say things aren’t exactly original. It’s got a cloth roof over a lift-off aluminum frame, carefully customized body work all around, some classy Dayton Wheels and believe it or not that’s a 405 HP GM LS6 under the hood.

The F4 Challenge winners included Aaron Vaccar and his gorgeous Subaru STI, which won the Experience Diamond award; Josh Wexler Supra that won the Amateur Diamond award, and Caught Ya Looking and J Bomb took home the Team Chase awards.

Besides these amazing pieces of machinery, also found on the show floor were our brothers from another mother, the Tjin Edition brothers, who made their way from California for the second year in a row to the Detroit Autorama to showcase the Tjin Edition Tour, which this year is presented by GlowShift Gauges.

Inside the massive Tjin Edition Tour presented by GlowShift Gauges booth, was Greg Noonan from GlowShift Gauges RHD Acura Integra, and of course the one and only Tjin Edition Nissan Skyline R34 Sedan and Chevy Cobalt SS.

The show was jam packed from Friday when the doors opened to Sunday night when the lights went off. This show brings in a great collaboration of tuner cars, rad-rods and hot-rods.
