Shakespeare Meet S2K

It feels like yesterday when the S2000 was grabbing major propaganda by all the big name car mags for potentially being a Corvette beater. Back in the 2000 pumping over 100hp per liter was absolutely unheard of. Critics said that the peppy 2 liter engine was tweaked beyond the point of exhaustion, and adding aftermarket power adders would be a waste of money; but proving the critics wrong is what Chris Shakespeare and Comptech do best.

A stock ’00 S2000 pumps out around 200rwhp, but when paired with a Comptech supercharger that resembles a King Kong sized donut things start to get bananas. 100+ bananas to be exact. No longer does the power kick in near redline territory, instead the power is much more apparent in the lower RPMs and steady all the way through redline. Paired with the behemoth supercharger is a custom Mahdavi Motorsports carbon fiber intake. A JIC Magic titanium exhaust and T1R testpipe give the exhaust gases a happy route to the Earth’s atmosphere. For extra control over air/fuel mixture an A’PEXi VAFC was added to net those extra few horses.

Sneak a peek behind the wheels and you’ll see a set of purple D2 Racing Sports coilovers. The coilovers give the car an aggressive stance, and plenty of stability when blasting through mountain passes. The 16″ factory wheels were nice, but Chris opted for the tried and true 17″ Work Emotions. Braking is further improved with crossdrilled/slotted rotors and Hawk brake pads for extra bite. A Cusco titanium strut bar and Comptech X-brace were installed for added rigidity.

The interior is kept close to stock trim except for the Corbeau Forza seats, custom floor mats, and a token Team Voodoo shift knob. When the roar of VTEC just isn’t good enough for Chris’ ears, he turns up the system powered by an Alpine head unit, Xtant amplifier, JL Audio components, and a bass hitting Diamond Audio sub.

The S2000 is becoming more and more an affordable sports car for any boy racer with a part time job. The S2000 wowed the critics back in 2000, and now nearly anybody can get their hands on one. This S2000 is a perfect blend of speed, style, sound, and practicality. The total money invested is no more than the cost of a new RSX or Celica, and they can’t even put their top down! So hush critics, I’m going to listen to a supercharged VTEC 2 liter while getting some harmful UV rays.
