With a new year here, we at TunerZine thought it would be time to roll out another project car for the upcoming season. This time around rather than building a show style car we will be building a car that will compete at various events around the west coast. This time we will be taking a 2008 Honda Civic Si sedan and creating an all-around car to compete in various forms of motorsports from road racing to drag racing. The car is owned by our contributing photographer from the North West, Chris Wold. Chris will be taking the car to events that he not only will be covering but also competing at. On top of national events, Chris has committed to running the car at his local SCCA and drag events in his area to help promote grass roots style racing. With the racing the car is going to see this year, you will be able to see what visual changes the upcoming parts will make but also the performance gains from each part.
To give you a brief history on the car, we take you back to October 2007 when the Civic was first purchased. Chris previously owned a Scion xB but was ready for something a little quicker and had a wider performance window to modify in. Within the first month of owning the car, Chris put some Konig Countersteers on the car (17×8). These rims helped give the car an aggressive look with the time attack paint scheme. From there, the suspension needed to be worked on, so Skunk2 lowering springs were put on the car. These springs really set off the looks of the car lowering it 2-inches in the front and 1.8-inches in the rear. The springs also helped a bit with the overall handling in the car, lowering its body roll. Now with a base to start, the Honda started competing at a few local autocross events and drag events. Then came the first set back, while covering a local event, the Civic was hit by a spectator in the parking lot. The collision pretty much required a new front end on the car, but along with this came two more visual modifications. A Seibon carbon fiber hood was put on, reducing the weight of the car by a good amount over the stock hood. The next change to the car was to color match the Konig rims to the color of the car.
Now the Si sits white on white waiting to see what will happen at the events this year. So while you are at an event on the west coast, keep your eye out for this project car to be on display and competing at the events.
