The Black Devil

Rotary and turbocharged power is what the Mazda RX-7 is all about. Tony Ha of San Antonio Texas enjoyed both of these things on the RX-7, but decided it was time to take matters into his own hands. The result is one of the absolute sickest and most complete RX-7's out there. Sporting a dark and menacing black shade, I can easily see kids mistaking this car for the Bat Mobile.

Helping give it the insane yet clean look is a JDM MazdaSpeed GTC front bumper. Mixing and matching the best of all worlds, Tony installed a pair of JDM Knightsports side skirts and had them molded onto the chassis. The rear bumper has received new stylish lines with the addition of JDM Feels rear bumper skirts. Up in the front, a JDM Knightsports carbon fiber vented hood takes place of the stock one, while East Bear's fixed headlight kit is found in the headlight housing. The stock taillights were swapped out for the more popular JDM 99 spec round tails. On the trunk is a Racing Beat Type-II spoiler sporting a stylish carbon fiber center piece.

Slamming the car to the ground is a set of TEIN RA coilovers that offer both dampening and height adjustability. Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars were bolted onto the chassis as well. Up front is a GReddy front strut tower bar and in the rear is a JIC rear carbon fiber unit. The car is completely set off thanks to a set of 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 Volk Racing GT-C wheels wrapped with Nitto NT555 tires. The braking has received an extensive makeover as well. In the front and the rear are sets of Brembo cross drilled and vented rotors. 4-piston calipers in the front and 2-piston calipers in the rear help bring the 19's to a halting stop. Axxis metal brake pads along with Goodridge stainless steel brake lines finish off the package.

Taking our eyes off the entire exterior, we can take a seat inside the RX-7 and admire its abundance in carbon fiber components. A series of Autometer carbon fiber gauges are in the cockpit along with a MOMO Tornado steering wheel and GReddy weighted shift knob. Torasports helps accent all the carbon fiber with genuine interior dash and door pieces. The seats were custom wrapped in a carbon fiber material and GReddy 4-point race harnesses drape majestically over each one. Several Pioneer audio components brighten up the interior of the 7, with an Alpine 12" sub in a custom enclosure providing the bass.
Enough with artificial bits and lip syncing teenie boppers, the real fun starts when the key's turned and the rotary's fired up. The Marvel Speed race ported 13B 2-rotor engine comes to life as the match ported upper and lower intake manifolds thirst for force induced air. The Garrett T04 single turbo upgrade easily satiates its desires as a stainless steel divided exhaust manifold spits all the fumes through a stainless steel downpipe and out an APEXi GT Spec exhaust system. An HKS intake starts the entire process, as plenty of fuel becomes sprayed into the motor thanks to some 850cc primary injectors and 1680cc secondary injectors. All located in an upgraded secondary fuel rail, a KG Parts fuel kit helps ensure this motor gets plenty of fuel. Adjustability comes from the ever popular Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. On the ignition side a Jacobs FC1000 ignition pack along with HKS plugs and Magencor 10mm spark plug wires brings the entire package to life. Several GReddy amenities decorate the engine bay, a radiator cap and oil cap along with the glistening of the Type-RS blow off valve in the sun. All the force induced air is cooled off by a large APEXi GT Spec intercooler system. Thanks to a GM 3 bar map sensor, the rotary 13B can be fine tuned with the aid of an APEXi Power FC management unit. A GReddy Profec B Spec 2 handles boost duty while an HKS turbo timer ensures everything lasts its lifetime. A Koyo aluminum radiator shines while offering great cooling capabilities. Lastly a Pettit Racing aluminum AST coolant tank was installed as a safety precaution.

Enough already right? Nah, top off the entire package with an NX Express 50shot and you're really in for a while ride. More tricks up its sleeve than the Bat Mobile, this stealthy RX-7 was a gem just waiting to be found.

It's radical. It's lightweight. It doesn't have a hood, or doors, or a windscreen. (Okay, there's a transparent wind deflector. A big whopping 70-milimeter's worth.) You pronounce it "crossbow," but i
